Types of Stainless Steel for Prototype Stamping

As experts in stainless steel short-run stamping, we work with a wide range of metal grades. We can source various stainless steel grades for corrosion resistance, weldability, and thermal properties.

302

This grade has excellent thermal resistance, machinability, and weldability. Grade 302 is often used for cryogenic parts and high-speed consumer goods such as blenders, washing machines, and dishwashers.

304

Grade 304 is widely used in all manufacturing industries because of its versatility. This grade blends strength, weldability, corrosion resistance, and ductility, making it ideal for pressure applications and industrial parts.

316

This marine-grade stainless steel provides outstanding work hardening capabilities and excellent corrosion resistance to acids and saltwater (chlorides). Grade 316 stainless steel stamping is commonly used in food and beverage manufacturing, coastal environments, and watch parts.

420

Commonly called surgical steel, grade 420 offers maximum oxidation resistance, good strength, and high luster. Stamped parts are used in knives, needle valves, scalpels, and other precision tools.

440

This heat-treatable grade offers high hardness (Rockwell 58) and edge retention. It provides outstanding strength for industrial tools, professional-grade cutlery, and conveyor parts.

904L

This low-carbon, high-alloy stainless steel provides optimum corrosion resistance for acetic, phosphoric, and sulfuric acids, along with high resistance to chlorides. It is also highly formable and easy to weld.

200-Series

The 200-series of stainless steel offers more wear resistance. It works well for proof-of-concept prototypes.
